London Careers Festival 2022

London Careers Festival is back!

From 20th June till 1st July, this free annual summer event seeks to connect pupils from primary to post-16 with the world of work – fuelling imaginations, developing skills, and inspiring futures.

With 4 events of our own taking place, Primary Futures is proud to be in partnership with the festival again this year, particularly after last year’s success when over 5,000 primary school children joined our activities.

Please read on for all of the exciting details for our sessions and the links to register.

Primary Futures Growing the Future: Jobs in the Gardens

Monday 20th June, 13:30 – 14:15

From Plant Scientists to Garden Landscapers, children can meet a variety of volunteers from the Royal Horticultural Society in this session, helping them to understand the vast range of jobs associated with gardening. They will also learn more about how different subjects such as maths, art and science are used in these jobs.

Children will begin with a quick-fire fun facts quiz about jobs in the gardening world before being introduced to the volunteers and engaging in a Q&A via a secure chat function.

This session is aimed at Key Stage 2.

Primary Futures: What’s My Line?

Wednesday 22nd June, 9:30 – 10:30

Help to challenge common stereotypes about jobs by taking part in our popular ‘What’s My Line?’ game, where children are asked to guess volunteers’ jobs through a series of yes or no questions. The volunteers will be incorporating storytelling and visuals, props or uniform to further engage the children in their jobs.

This session can be targeted at younger age groups in Key Stage 1 or lower Key Stage 2.

Primary Futures: Creative Jobs

Thursday 23rd June, 11:30 – 12:30

In this session, children can learn about a range of ‘creative’ jobs by meeting and asking questions of volunteers from these fields. Children will find out what jobs are behind producing TV programmes, making chocolate, designing clothes and creating theatre productions to name a few.

Volunteers will showcase their jobs through props and visuals and help children to understand how a range of school subjects can be used in the future in these creative roles.

This session is suitable for Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2.

Drawing the Future (in-person session)

Wednesday 29th June

Sessions will run 9:30 – 11:00, 11:30 – 13:00 and 13:30 – 15:00

Taking place at Guildhall, London, this highly interactive in-person session will firstly involve children taking part in a fun drawing activity called ‘Drawing the Future’, where children are asked to think about their futures and aspirations.

The children will then have the opportunity to meet a panel of 4 volunteers working in a range of jobs and sectors, taking part in a fun Q&A to find out more about their jobs. Volunteers will incorporate storytelling and visuals, props or uniform to engage children in their jobs.

This session is aimed at Key Stage 2.

Once registered, we will email you with next steps and a reminder of joining instructions for your children. We look forward to welcoming your school onto our showcase virtual and in-person events as part of the London Careers Festival.
